Back from 2 impressive, exotic and successful weeks in Brazil!

The Sinfonia Rotterdam tour was in all aspects a superb event.

Sinfonia Rotterdam excelled in every aspect with top performances not only on the high profile podia like the Teatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro and the MASP in Sao Paulo, but also equally dynamic and flexible on regional stages. Everywhere the orchestra was received by extremely appreciative full audiences who not only very enthusiastically applauded us but also sought after us to personally convey their warmth and gratitude for our performance. Heart warming!

Very touching too was the visit to Instituto Baccarreli in the poor area of Sao Paulo. What a wonderful initiative where during the master classes we gave we not only experienced a high playing level but such a drive and passion to make music that made many of the orchestra members emotional.

Next to the 7 formal concerts, the raving school concert and the master classes there was luckily also free time to enjoy Brazil. Samba clubs, parks, museums, shops, markets, beaches, views, meals and the unmistakable photo made at the statue of Christ in Rio de Janeiro.

A strike at Sao Paulo airport forced us to bus to Rio de Janeiro for our international flight, and to top it we missed the connection to Amsterdam in Lisbon… in total making our homeward journey last 32 hours. But this minor detail could not touch the mood of Sinfonia Rotterdam. We went to Brazil to present our concerts, our music and our manner of performing. We did this with expertise and love, and I was once again proud to lead this wonderful orchestra in concerts that became happenings!

The success was evident. The impresario immediately re-invited us for the next tour with the intention of making a yearly event of Sinfonia Rotterdam in Brazil.

A big thank you to all who made this unforgettable experience possible!

Conrad van Alphen – Conductor and Director.
